For Parents

Happy Family

At the Coleman Stuttering Center, we understand that when a child begins to stutter, parents often feel overwhelmed, uncertain, and unsure of what to do next. Many families are told to “wait and see,” while others receive conflicting advice that can increase stress and confusion. Our goal is to provide families with clear guidance, compassionate support, and evidence-based care from the very beginning. We work closely with parents to help them better understand stuttering, recognize how communication environments impact a child’s confidence, and learn practical strategies that support successful communication at home, school, and in everyday life.

We believe parents are one of the most important parts of the treatment process, and we strive to empower families with knowledge, encouragement, and tools that make a meaningful difference. Our approach is individualized, family-centered, and focused on the whole child—not just moments of stuttering. We help parents support communication confidence, reduce fear and frustration surrounding speaking, and create positive speaking experiences in daily interactions. Through coaching, education, and collaborative goal setting, families learn how to respond to stuttering in supportive and healthy ways while building resilience and self-confidence in their child. Whether your child is just beginning to stutter or has been struggling for years, the Coleman Stuttering Center is committed to helping your family feel informed, supported, and hopeful throughout the journey.
