Adults

Adults who stutter often carry years of frustration, avoidance, negative speaking experiences, and pressure to “hide” or “control” their speech. Many have spent a lifetime worrying about phone calls, meetings, interviews, introductions, ordering at restaurants, public speaking, or simply saying their name. At the Coleman Stuttering Center, we understand that stuttering in adulthood is about far more than speech fluency alone. It impacts confidence, participation, relationships, career opportunities, and quality of life. Our goal is to help adults move beyond fear, avoidance, and self-judgment toward greater confidence, authenticity, and freedom in communication.
Treatment is individualized, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based approaches that address the full experience of stuttering, including the emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and communication aspects of the disorder. We help adults develop practical communication strategies while also working to reduce avoidance, increase participation in meaningful life situations, and build greater self-confidence as communicators. Therapy may focus on workplace communication, presentations, social interactions, interviews, dating, leadership roles, or other personally meaningful goals. We believe successful treatment is not simply measured by moments of fluency, but by increased participation, reduced fear, and the ability to communicate more openly and confidently in real-world situations
